Princess Cruises Takes Aim at Rising Cost of Disney World Vacations in New Commercial

In a new ad spot, Princess Cruises takes direct aim at the rising cost of a Disney World vacation. The spot, which is an advertisement for a vacation cruise to Alaska, does everything but name Walt Disney World as the competitor in question. The ad spot contrasts popular Disney World locations and offerings such as Main Street USA, Wilderness Lodge, Animal Kingdom, and fireworks with Alaska’s version. Princess Cruises invites guests to Alaska “where the magic is real”.

The ad spot ends by saying that you can experience it all for “half the price of theme park vacations”.

It’s no secret that some of the top complaints on social media about a modern Disney World vacation are that the parks are too crowded and the vacation is too expensive. Add-ons such as paid skip-the-line offerings in Disney Genie+ and removals of previously free offerings such as Disney Magical Express are just a portion of complaints that guests have leveled against Disney.

With Disney’s profits soaring in the theme parks division following a global travel lull due to COVID-19, Disney executives have reported record per cap guest spending – the “real feel” of a Disney vacation.
