Avoid Riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on Mondays (In Most Cases)

As we continue to keep an eye on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a trend has developed that puts one day of the week significantly behind other days of the week. As it turns out, Mondays are not just tough on everyone on planet Earth, they’re also tough on Cosmic Rewind. Let’s explain.

In a wild reversal from our early opinion of “Virtual Queues are bad”, we’ve actually grown to enjoy the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Virtual Queue due to how easy it is to join and how (generally) pleasant the experience is once your Boarding Group is called. More on that in the article below.

However, not all days are created equal. Monday is decidedly worse than the other days of the week for a few reasons.

First, as you can see in the graph from thrill-data.com, Mondays have the highest waits, by average, of any weekday this year. That alone is probably a good reason to avoid EPCOT on Mondays in general, but it’s not enough to tip the scales on why not to try to ride Cosmic Rewind on Mondays. For that, we need to dig a little deeper.

The real reason that we believe Cosmic Rewind should be avoided on Mondays is how quickly the 1pm distribution window closes. Whereas other days of the week it’s open for at least 15 minutes and mostly up to 45 minutes to a couple of hours, on Mondays, the Virtual Queue is often only open for a few minutes. Why is that?

Well, Mondays are the days of the week when Extended Evening perks are offered at EPCOT. This means that guests staying at a Disney World Deluxe Hotel are able to spend a few hours after park close riding attractions. This also means that those same guests get an extra chance to join the Virtual Queue to ride Cosmic Rewind after hours. With Extended Hours starting at park close, and the highest paying guests coming in right after, Disney needs to ensure that regular guests are done riding Cosmic Rewind by park close and usually up to an hour before park close. That leads to fewer Boarding Groups being distributed at 1pm and a more difficult Virtual Queue landscape on Mondays.

If you have no other option, of course you should still go to EPCOT on Mondays, but if you can push your visit to Tuesday (or better yet visit on the weekend), we’d suggest shuffling your plans to make things easier.

Then again, if you’re a Deluxe Resort hotel guest we highly recommend visiting EPCOT on Mondays to double-dip your Cosmic Rewind chances while keeping in mind it’s more competitive.
