Expedition Everest, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure May Remain as Standard Genie+ Attractions Past August 8th

A recent change to the Disney World website may have tipped Disney’s hand as to how they’re going to treat two attractions after the temporary Genie+ changes expire on August 8th.

As a refresher, Disney implemented a change back in February that demoted select Individual Lightning Lane attractions to the Genie+ offering temporarily through August 7th. This change was meant to create more of a value proposition for guests that were finding the service to be a bit of a ripoff because they could only experience a few attractions per day. In fact, Disney even attempted to lower expectations of what the Disney Genie+ service could actually accomplish in a single day.

This temporary change meant that the attractions moved from an a la carte pay to skip the line single offering into a general bucket of multiple attractions and experiences that guests can pay to skip the line for with Disney Genie+. The attractions that were demoted were:

    • Space Mountain
    • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
    • Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
    • Expedition Everest

It’s those final two attractions that we’re investigating today. Before we get to those attractions though, we need to illustrate why we think that the August 8th move back to Individual Lightning Lane is still in place for Space Mountain and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway.

As you can see in the screenshots of the Disney World website below, both Space Mountain and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway remain under the Individual Lightning Lane heading, albeit with asterisks to denote their temporary status.

However, if we look at the Lightning Lane lineup for EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we can see that a recent change was made to the Disney World website that removes Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Expedition Everest from the Individual Lightning Lane header and moves them into the general Disney Genie+ bucket of attractions and experiences. They do still retain the asterisks that denote a temporary move, but neither Space Mountain nor Runway Railway were literally demoted to Genie+.

The question now is: why did Disney make this change?

It’s possible that with the opening fo Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Disney didn’t feel that three attractions needed to be part of the a la carte Individual Lightning Lane offering and choose to permanently demote Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. It’s probably noteworthy that Frozen Ever After is in both buckets, for whatever that’s worth.

Over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Expedition Everest was the least purchased Individual Lightning Lane at all four Walt Disney World theme parks, so it probably made sense to demote it permanently to strengthen the value proposition of purchasing Disney Genie+ at a park that really doesn’t need it most days of the year.

Either way, Disney has been silent about the recent change, but we hope that we learn more about their plans post-August 8th as we get closer to the change.
