Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returned this past Friday night at Magic Kingdom, and with its return, the fantastic “Boo-To-You” parade also returned. Recently, we wrote an article about how the “Boo-To-You” parade is the first fully-staffed parade to return to Walt Disney World in more than 2 years, but that doesn’t mean that there weren’t missing elements. In our article, we noted that a minor parade float was missing (but perhaps that was just opening night issues), and we noted that some other elements of the parade had changed, but there are some characters missing from the parade. Most notably, the Splash Mountian characters have been removed from the “Boo-To-You” parade.
In the 2019 version of the parade, Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Bear, and Br’er Fox were all part of the Frontierland unit of the parade. However, in summer 2020, Disney announced that they would be retheming Splash Mountain to a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction after they determined the connection that Splash Mountain had to the controversial Song of the South movie no longer aligned with company values. While Splash Mountain still remains open to this day, there is a plan to retheme it to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure by the end of 2024.
To that end, Disney has been slowly removing references to Splash Mountain at its theme parks. The latest adjustment is the removal of the Splash Mountain characters from Mickey’s “Boo-To-You” Parade. Here’s a look back at 2019 and the Br’ers.
Here’s our video from 2018 where you can see them included in the Frontierland segment.
Now, here’s a look at the same Frontierland unit from 2022 with the Br’er’s cut from the parade. It’s down to the country bears and Chip & Dale.
Here’s our video of the 2022 parade on opening night.
