When Tiana’s Bayou Adventure opens this year at Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, it will contain subtle nods to the former Splash Mountain theme, according to a report from nola.com, who had a reporter recently tour the construction site with Imagineer Ted Robledo.
As you likely know by now, Splash Mountain was the name for the attraction that is now being reimagined into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Back in Summer 2020, Disney announced that they would be retheming Splash Mountain into a Princess and the Frog-themed ride as part of the company’s Diversity & Inclusion initiative. Splash Mountain was based on the problematic Song of the South movie, with characters and songs from the movie in the attraction.
It’s unclear what kind of nods Disney will have in the attraction, but the report says they will be “subtle”. Any nods to the former attraction at all are a bit surprising given Disney’s desire to no longer be associated with the attraction and the Song of the South film.
