Wait times are high at Walt Disney World right now. How high? During the past two weeks at Disney World, average wait times matched the highest average weekly wait times during the summer season. Let’s take a look!
We’ll take a look at some charts from thrill-data.com to see just how much wait times have climbed in the past two weeks. Here’s a look at the weekly average wait times in 2022 so far (graph below). As you can see, the lowest wait times are behind us and you’ll want to circle the month of September when planning your 2023 vacation to take advantage of the Walt Disney World slow season. Since mid-September, wait times have been ticking up, but they have shot up in the past two weeks when average wait times across Walt Disney World were 45 minutes per ride.
In theory, the Disney Park Pass reservation system was designed to flatten out the peaks and valleys of wait times by managing attendance, but we still expect to see seasonal increases and while we anticipate wait times to continue to climb as we get closer to Thanksgiving, historical trends suggest that wait times should trend down in late October.
If we consider 2019 and 2021, the middle of October tends to be a peak for the month, with wait times at the end of the month dropping 5-10 minutes, on average, by Halloween. By the second week of November, we should start to see a climb to Thanksgiving peaks before slowing a bit in early December and then climbing to Christmas.
In short, wait times are high now, but we should see some relief shortly as long as you avoid major holidays.
