DeSantis’ “Hostile” Takeover of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District Passes House Vote, Advances to Senate

House Bill 9B has passed through the Florida House of Representatives with a 82-31 vote this afternoon. The bill, which seeks to give Florida Governor Ron DeSantis control over the Reedy Creek Improvement District, has been called a “hostile takeover” by Rep. Anna Eskamani – the most vocal opponent of the bill in both the subcommittee stage and on the House floor.

The bill will give DeSantis control over appointing the proposed five-member Board of Directors, in addition to renaming the district to the “Central Florida Tourism Oversight District”. No changes are expected regarding Disney’s taxes or the RCID bonds. The bill now goes to the Senate for a vote.
