Walt Disney World Cast Members part of the Service Trades Council Union have voted to ratify a new contract where they will immediately receive a minimum wage of $17/hr among other benefits. The vote was 97% ‘yes’, nearly mirroring a 96% ‘no’ vote on a contract proposal in February. More than 12,500 full-time Cast Members voted.
Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle issued the following statement after the vote passed:
Our cast members have always been at the heart of the Walt Disney World experience, and we are thrilled that, with the support of the union, they have overwhelmingly approved this new five-year agreement that significantly increases wages, alongside our leading benefits program that includes affordable medical coverage and more. Frontline employees also have access to 100 percent paid tuition for higher education through the Disney Aspire program.
The contract will provide a minimum of more than $5/hr increase over the life of the contract.
