Disney World Amends Federal Lawsuit to Include Bill Nullifying Reedy Creek Contract & DeSantis’ Recent Comments on Retaliation

Disney World has filed an amendment to its federal lawsuit against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors, and others to include a recently signed bill that would nullify the Development Agreement that is in place between Disney World and the District.

The amended lawsuit was filed today with information about the bill that DeSantis signed last Friday.

In the amended lawsuit, Disney says that “Governor DeSantis and his allies have no apparent intent to moderate their retaliatory campaign anytime soon”. Disney World is asking the court to declare both the newly signed Senate Bill 1604 and the former Legislative Declaration unlawful and unenforceable under the Contracts Clause of the U.S. Constitution. (Updated to clarify cause of action)

In a recap of the events that have led to this point, Disney is able to point to DeSantis’ own words, saying that “without hesitation or prompt, Governor DeSantis admitted: ‘[t]his all started, of course, with our parents’ rights bill'”. Disney found this quote to be so noteworthy that they placed it at the top of the amended lawsuit. They then outlined what they call “a targeted campaign of government retaliation – orchestrated at every step by Governor DeSantis as punishment for Disney’s protected speech”.

The amended lawsuit also takes issue with the proposed legislation that would require State oversight of Disney World’s monorail system inspections. The lawsuit alleges that the monorail bill “was precision-engineered to target Disney alone, just as Governor DeSantis intended”.

Disney also references an interview that BlogMickey.com reported on where DeSantis admits that the “most important” thing is that Disney has not spoken out about new and expanding legislation since the retaliation against Disney’s first public statement had begun in Spring 2022.

    1. I was never a big fan of Disney’s corporate set up but as a long time Florida resident Disney’s effect on the state is undeniable. This Governor is using his cronies to ruin this state and turn us back to pre civil war thinking. God help us if either him or Trump ever get in White House again! Never been asleep no need to be woke.

    2. I actually agree with DeSantis policy but I hope Disney prevails in there lawsuit because we don’t need some ascending to the presidency who thinks revenge politics is business as usual.

    3. Desantis is a threat to our CONSTITUTION ! Going to DESTROY our economy if we allow DICTATORS to impose there will on others !

    4. Desantis is about to get to the “find out” stage. Disney has THE best lawyers money can afford, and is one of the biggest taxpayers in the state . . . . This ain’t gonna be pretty, but I know who I got my money on, and it ain’t Desantis and his cronies.

    5. DeSantis has pushed the mouse too far one too many times. The thing about Disney is that they are petty and they keep score. Not only are they going to win and get everything back, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mickey ends up as the next governor of FL.

Lord knows he would do a better job!

    6. DeSantis governor is a tyrant don’t listen to his own personal life he’s but a oppressor dictator

    7. Disney is out of Control and needed to be put in their Place.
Everyone should be proud we have a Governor that cares about the Children and Families right to their Children what’s right and Wrong.

      • If voicing a dissenting opinion is out of control than you must hate that the 1st Amendment exists for that very reason.

    8. Disney should NOT have special privileges extended to Walt Disney who died in the 60’s. They are NOT a Sovereign Country that can be exempt from Florida State Laws of Taxes and Land Governence. They are subject to inspections, taxes, and applicable State Laws.
