Following Announcement of July 4th Military Flyover, Disney World Blocks Annual Passholders from Visiting Magic Kingdom

UPDATE: After publishing this article, Disney World reopened Disney Park Pass availability for Annual Passholders. Our original article continues below.

Following yesterday morning’s announcement that there would be a special military flyover at Magic Kingdom the morning of July 4th, Disney World quickly blocked Annual Passholders from making new reservations at the theme park. There are no other blocked-out dates for Annual Passholders through 2024 and Magic Kingdom was previously wide open for availability before the announcement. Walt Disney World Resort guests are still able to make reservations for Magic Kingdom.

The targeted blocking can likely be justified by boiling it down to crowd management. For previous flyovers, Main Street USA would be crowded as you might expect. By blocking Annual Passholders, Disney World can limit the number of guests who can watch the flyover from inside Magic Kingdom. It’s possible that Disney will open up park pass reservations for Annual Passholders at any point following the 10:30am flyover. The other three theme parks remain open for Park Pass reservations which means that Annual Passholders will still be able to Park Hop later in the day.

No Disney World theme park has reached Park Pass capacity for Annual Passholders for months.

    1. Do you think there is one guy sitting behind a computer watching daily attendance rise each day and playing it like a video game? I picture someone rubbing their hands together like a cartoon villain, waiting till it hits a certain number, and then his finger hovering over the button; Just waiting to either say no more park, reservations available, or the one button that increases the price of genie plus each day. I can’t imagine that Disney leaves this all to a computer algorithm without some human intervention, 24/7.

    2. I have been at Magic Kingdom on July 4th. It was amazing and very stressful. Disney is right in limiting the people going there.I love Disney but will not ever go back on the 4th.
