Lightning Strikes Reportedly To Blame for Extended Downtime at Two Animal Kingdom Attractions

An intense, but somewhat common summer storm swept through Animal Kingdom and the Walt Disney World area early this afternoon. Along with heavy rain, there were at least three lighting strikes at or near the park, and two attractions in close proximity to one another have yet to reopen.

Both Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids have remained closed following the storms from earlier this afternoon and Cast Members are not sure when they will reopen. The attractions closed shortly before 1pm and didn’t reopen when the storms cleared around 45 minutes later.
