Florida State Senator Proposes Bill Repealing DeSantis Takeover of Reedy Creek Improvement District

Florida State Senator Linda Stewart has proposed a bill to repeal Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ takeover of the Reedy Creek Improvement District. State Senator Stewart is a Democrat who represents the eastern portion of Orange County, Florida.

The bill, which will be introduced into the 2024 session of the Florida Senate aims to fully repeal the bill that allowed DeSantis to take over the Reedy Creek Improvement District. If Chapter 2023-5 cannot be repealed, the bill then aims to readopt the 1966 establishing act that originally created the Reedy Creek Drainage District. The terms of the charter would then be as they existed on February 26, 2023 before DeSantis’ takeover.

The proposed bill would then remove the current Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Board of Supervisors once a replacement has been found. The proposed bill also reaffirms that any contracts or bonds would not be impacted.

Senator Stewart will comment further about the proposed bill at a press conference tomorrow.

    1. “State Senator Stewart is a Democrat”, which ensures it will never pass the Republican supermajority. If a Republican introduced it, it will split the chamber, but this will have no chance.
