CFTOD Board of Supervisors Cancel Final Scheduled Meeting of 2023

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has canceled its final scheduled meeting of 2023 after calling a special meeting last week to release an audit that leveled accusations of bribery against Disney World and the former Reedy Creek Improvement District. In addition to lengthy coverage of the report that Disney called “neither objective nor credible”, Board Chairman Martin Garcia asked the Florida Legislature to enact more laws that would change the landscape of the Walt Disney World Resort.

The cancelation comes on the eve of a trip to Federal court for the CFTOD and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as they attempt to get a judge to throw out a case where Disney claims that its First Amendment rights were chilled by the creation of the new CFTOD government by DeSantis and his rubber-stamp legislature.

On the agenda for the now-canceled December 13th meeting were rather benign topics with the possible exception of the creation of a special magistrate for code enforcement violations.

The Board has released its 2024 schedule, which currently has 13 meetings scheduled, down from a total of 19 scheduled meetings in 2023 and three additional special meetings. DeSantis’ hand-picked Board canceled 4 meetings in 2023 and rescheduled one meeting.
