Rise of the Resistance Single Rider Now Utilizing Full Pre-Show Experience

    Published:

After returning last month, the Rise of the Resistance Single Rider queue has been updated again, and this is the update we’ve been waiting for! During a visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios recently, we joined the Single Rider queue to find that it is now routed through the full pre-show experience. There’s still a portion where you walk backstage, so that’s less than ideal, but at least you’re getting the full story experience now. Here’s a look!

Rise of the Resistance Single Rider Improved with Full Pre-Show Experience

As has been the case since the Single Rider offering debuted, there will be a Cast Member outside of the entrance to the attraction with a sign indicating that Single Rider is available. You can either check in with the Cast Member here, or simply proceed to the exit of the ride, where you’ll find another Cast Member at the proper entrance for the Single Rider queue.

The photo below shows the start of the new process. With every process before this one, you’d take a right where the Cast Member is standing instead of going through the door. To the right of the Cast Member is the back of Poe’s X-Wing and the courtyard where the Intersystem Transport Ship is located. We’ll get to that in a bit. By going through this door, we’re headed into the cave system in order to experience the Rey pre-show.

A walk down a short hallway takes us to the cave system, where we wait to enter the Rey pre-show. Unlike other routes, there was no verbal or written instructions not to take photos. As I’ve said in the past, I believe that backstage hallways stop being backstage when they are utilized as part of a standard process. Either way, here’s a look at the very short hallway where we enter through the door on the right in the photo below, and then exit out the door on the far left of the photo.

We’ll start with a reverse view of the merge point in the cavernous staging area before the Rey pre-show. As you can see in the photo below, the Single Rider entrance is fully themed from this room. Beyond the short walk through the backstage hallway, your experience is otherwise fully themed and in-story.

It’s worth noting that while this room represents the merge point for Lightning Lane and the regular standby queue, Single Riders will not merge at this point. Instead, the group of Single Riders will go through the full pre-show experience together and separate from the merged regular queue. To that end, your group will likely be a bit smaller than if you were to use the merged regular queue.

Here’s a look at the Rey pre-show experience with only Single Riders.

Here’s a look at the next part of the pre-show experience, which shuffles the group of Single Riders into the Intersystem Transport Ship. Note that the route for the Single Rider queue actually used to take you around this part of the pre-show. In one instance, you’d walk through some deep backstage hallways on the pathway seen in the center of the photo below. In another instance, you’d walk down a simpler backstage hallway behind the ship to the left of the photo below.

As with the regular merged line pre-show experience, a First Order Cast Member greets you at the exit of the Intersystem Transport Ship. From here, you will be guided by another Cast Member to the left of the regular merged queue so that you can continue on with the Single Rider line.

As with previous iterations of the Single Rider experience, you’ll stay to the left and be called upon when needed to fill in gaps at the grouper.

Single Rider (left), regular queue (right)

In total, our Single Rider experience took about 25 minutes, which is greatly improved over our previous visit.

It remains unclear how long the Single Rider experience will be offered, but it doesn’t seem to have been made a permanent addition yet. If it sticks around, we think that this route should be the route that Disney utilizes going forward. Yes, it still uses a backstage hallway, but that’s rather unavoidable if you want to experience both pre-shows. The only “pure” route would be to skip the Rey pre-show and simply use the Intersystem Transport Ship.

      • As noted in the article, at no point was I told that I couldn’t take photos. If I would’ve been told that, I wouldn’t have taken the photos

      • You will miss the entire queue up to the first pre-show with Rey. This includes an outdoor nature portion with a small waterfall and a cave system with various props. You will also walk through a short backstage hallway as shown in the article.
