New Test Track Canopy at EPCOT

Here’s a look at previously released concept art for the reimagined entrance to Test Track. As you may remember, there used to be a giant canopy blocking views of the building. That canopy has since been demolished, and the canopy seen below is being built.

Starting from the monorail, we can see the full bones of the canopy are nearly in place. After the steel has been installed, theming can begin, including the installation of lighting and wait time signs.

Looking at the photos below, it appears that the canopy might be “small”. If I was just seeing the photos and not visiting in person to see the canopy myself, I would think the same thing. That said, it’s actually a really good size and I would even say that it’s slightly larger than I thought it was going to be just from the concept art alone.

From the ground, we immediately get a better sense of the scale of the canopy. I think it fits the building really well while providing shade and a little bit of protection from the elements for Cast Members and guests standing outside. It’s a good balance between form and function, whereas the previous canopy was simply too large for the space, dominating the building behind it.

Test Track 3.0 Description

But, before we get too far down this winding road, Test Track will celebrate today’s innovation while highlighting the past, present, and future. The queue will feature six distinct exhibits, and within each room celebrate the vehicles – and people behind the vehicles – that push the envelope and help get people to our next chapter in our motion journey. 

New show scenes will be added showcasing technological advances and how our lifestyles and relationships to mobility connect everyone. Enjoy a joy ride through scenes focusing on onboard technology, customization and personalization. Followed by a trip through a scenic outdoor route reminding us all of the joys of driving, taking in the world around us and spending quality time with friends and family.
