As Walt Disney World continues its refurbishment of the Astro Orbiter attraction in Tomorrowland, all of the ride mechanics that we can see have been removed. Earlier this month, the arrival of a large crane suggested to us that the attraction would be rebuilt, and the removal of the ride mechanics from the 3rd-floor platform suggests that a rebuild is exactly what’s happening.
As a reminder, the Astro Orbiter is currently scheduled to reopen sometime this Summer at Magic Kingdom. Walt Disney World has not announced an exact reopening date at this time.
Here’s a look at the Astro Orbiter from our visit to Magic Kingdom this morning!
Astro Orbiter Removed from Magic Kingdom
As you can see, some of the structure of the theming remains in place, but all visible ride mechanics have been removed. It’s unclear if we’ll see a full removal of the theme structure as well as the mechanics of the system or not.
We’ll start with a few sunrise photos before jumping on the PeopleMover later in the morning for an elevated look at the work.
