African Elephant Returns to Jungle Cruise After 18-Month Absence as Another Elephant Goes Missing

The second African elephant has returned to the Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom following an 18-month absence. The last time that we recall seeing the elephant was all the way back in August 2023 before it was removed from the ride. That said, the “Mother-in-Law” elephant has returned and is back to trumpeting from the shrubs on the right side of the boat. Here’s a closer look!

Jungle Cruise African Elephant Returns Following 18-Month Absence

First, here’s a look at the elephant that has been stealing the show from the left side of the river for the last year and a half. This elephant was not removed and has been standing guard over the river in the other elephants’ vacation.

Here’s a look at where the second elephant was missing, on the right side of the boat.

And here’s a look at the second African elephant, seen during our ride this morning, returned to her spot on the right side of the boat.

It looks like elephants may be a zero-sum game at the Jungle Cruise. While the second African elephant returned early in the ride, another went missing in the elephant bathing pool toward the end of the ride.

Here’s a look back at the pair of elephants as they’re normally found on the right side of the boat after you exit the ruins toward the end of the ride.

And here’s a look at the missing pachyderm as (not) seen on our ride this morning.
