Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a notice of commencement permit for the demolition of Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom. As a reminder, both the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will have their final day of operation on July 6th, closing permanently on July 7th. Here’s a closer look at the permit.
Permit Filed for Tom Sawyer Island Demolition
The permit was filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, and lists NorthStar Contracting Group as the contractor for the work. The scope of the work is listed as “demo, infrastructure prep and utility modification” for an address that resolves to Tom Sawyer Island.
The work is contracted for a year. If the work takes longer than that, a new permit would need to be filed.
Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are being demolished to make way for a Cars-themed expansion to Frontierland. The northern part of the island is being demolished to make way for a Villains Land in the northwest corner of Magic Kingdom.
