Safety Nets Installed Under Iconic Tree of Life in Zootopia: Better Zoogether Queue

|

Walt Disney World has installed safety nets above the Zootopia: Better Zoogether queue at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Previews of the new attraction are underway, and we’re getting our first look at the structure that we first spotted under construction last month. We assumed that the structure was going to be a shade structure, but it looks like the “roof” of the structure is actually comprised of safety netting.

This article has been updated with our own photos of the safety nets. The rest of the information in the article remains the same, including the purpose of the safety nets.

Safety Nets Installed Under Iconic Tree of Life

As you can see from the photos below, the top of the structure contains netting. As we understand it, this is, in fact, safety netting. The nets were installed as a proactive measure, with maintenance scheduled to take place on the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is nearly 30 years old, and Walt Disney World will be performing maintenance on the tree, as they do with all of the centerpieces at Walt Disney World. In fact, Cinderella Castle will soon be even more of the center of attention at Magic Kingdom as the castle reverts to the old color scheme sometime in the near future.

As to the scope of the Tree of Life maintenance work, that remains a mystery for now. The safety nets are expected to stay in place throughout the length of the maintenance work, which will continue for the foreseeable future. Right now, the safety nets are considered a temporary preventative measure as Disney continues to put safety at the forefront of everything they do.

The Tree of Life is located in Discovery Island at the hub of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The tree towers 14 stories above the landscape and is 50 feet wide and sprawls to 170 feet in diameter at its base.  The trunk of the tree is intricately carved with a swirling tapestry of animal forms that symbolize the richness and diversity of animal life on Earth.

The exterior of the Tree of Life previously underwent an exterior refurbishment back in January 2023.

As for Zootopia: Better Zoogether, the new show debuts November 7th at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, with previews for select groups scheduled over the next week. For more on how to attend an Annual Passholder preview, check out our article below!
