Walt Disney World Expands Cashless Locations, Advises Guests to Purchase Gift Cards

Walt Disney World has recently expanded the number of locations that are cashless around the theme parks. The locations are typically outdoor vendor locations where guests would purchase soda or ice cream novelties and the like. Here’s a look at the new signage, and what you should do if you only have cash.

Many of the carts and kiosks that guests encounter will now be cashless as part of an early October property-wide change. Cast Members we spoke with said that of the dozens of outdoor vending locations at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, all but one are now cashless. It’s the same story at the other theme parks. It’s worth noting that this is an expansion of cashless locations. Several carts were already cashless before this expansion.

So, what should you do if you have cash? As noted on the signage and repeated verbally by Cast Members, guests are advised to purchase a gift card at a nearby gift shop. With a gift card, guests can transform cash into a valid payment method for the many cashless locations around the theme parks.

A final thing worth noting is that the signage is currently consistent around the parks. Even highly themed locations like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (seen below) contain the standard signage. It might be nice if Disney were to create in-story, themed signage in the future, but that’s not the case at the moment. Imagineers have previously spoken about the great lengths that they went to create compliant, in-theme signage throughout Batuu. A similar effort hasn’t taken place for this signage yet.

  1. I think it’s an absolutely stupid change that shouldn’t be mandated…, hopefully it’ll be reverted when the new CEO comes in next year

  2. What is CASH ? I heard my grandparents speak of this cash. 🙂
A cashless park started years ago. It has been in the works for over 10 years.
