Mystery Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Project Revealed to be Additional Seating

|

Over the Summer, new construction walls were installed at the northwest entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This entrance/exit to the land is the one that connects the Star Wars outpost to Toy Story Land. The construction walls were installed, and a decent amount of land clearing took place as Summer turned to Fall. However, Walt Disney World had not announced a construction project, so fans were left to speculate. Well, speculate no more; we now know what’s being built.

New Seating Coming to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

New aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct reveal that the construction is for new ledge seating. The project appeared to be related to the nearby construction of a new popcorn stand in Toy Story Land, given the timing of the arrival of construction walls this Summer. Now, we’re certain that the two projects are related. Basically, a popcorn stand in Toy Story Land, and a new seating area across the walkway to allow guests to sit and enjoy their snacks.

Here’s a look at the two construction projects, with the previously revealed popcorn stand on the left, and the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge seating area to the right.

There may be some room here for a rolling cart of beverages to be offered as well, but it doesn’t look like this addition is significant in any tangible way beyond fulfilling guest density requirements.

  1. Given that Toy Story Land includes real toys licensed from Hasbro, it would be cool if at the edge of Toy Story Land as you enter Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge they had a life-sized version of some Kenner Star Wars action figures in packaging. And of course an empty one you can do a photo-op in.

  2. That corridor between Star Wars and Toy Story is a huge missed opportunity, theming-wise. Star Wars toys are massively popular! There should be a bunch of Star Wars toys – to scale with Toy Story land – scattered around that path as a transitional theme. Like, if you’re entering from Toy Story, you pass a bunch of Star Wars toys as you leave, and then Star Wars feels like it’s sprung from the imagination of a child playing with their Star Wars toys. Instead it’s just this long empty corridor.
