Humunga Kowabunga, Mayday Falls Slides Closed Indefinitely at Typhoon Lagoon

Guests visiting Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will be down two water slides for the rest of the winter season. Today, Humunga Kowabunga closed unceremoniously, following the unexpected closure of Mayday Falls earlier in the season. Walt Disney World has not said when either slide will reopen, although the hope is that both will be ready for the Summer season following a park-wide refurbishment. Here’s the latest.

Humunga Kowabunga, Mayday Falls Now Closed at Typhoon Lagoon

As we previously reported, Humunga Kowabunga is now closed at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park with no known reopening date. Walt Disney World has not responded to a request for clarification about the reopening of a slide that went viral for all the wrong reasons.

As you may know, Humunga Kowabunga was at the center of a viral lawsuit after a woman allegedly experienced a violent wedgie while partaking in the attraction. That lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed last Summer.

Earlier this month, we spotted a permit that would suggest that the attraction is being rebuilt. Walt Disney World has not announced any refurbishment or construction work for the slide as of this time.

Now, low construction walls are up around Humunga Kowabunga, and the slides have been drained ahead of what we assume will be a full rebuild over the next few months.

Likewise, signage is up at Mayday Falls, informing guests that the attraction is not open. A message on the Walt Disney World website says, “At this time, Mayday Falls is unavailable”.

A reopening date for both Humunga Kowabunga and Mayday Falls has not been announced by Walt Disney World yet. We assume that both will reopen at some point this year, hopefully ahead of the busy Summer season.
