Imagineering Files Permit for Former Mike Fink Keel Boat Landing Near Haunted Mansion

|

Walt Disney Imagineering continues to prepare permits for areas at and around the Haunted Mansion attraction at Magic Kingdom. Recently, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the former Mike Fink Keel Boat landing near the Haunted Mansion. In recent years, this area has been utilized as an extended queue space for the Haunted Mansion attraction, but changes are on the way!

The permit, filed by Walt Disney Imagineering, lists “general construction” as the scope of work. The permit lists MLC Theming as the contractor for the work, and it lists an address that resolves to the Mike Fink Keel Boat landing structure near the entrance to the Haunted Mansion attraction.

In terms of what to expect here, we’re not 100% sure. Looking at previously released concept art for the upcoming Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park, it’s unclear if the Mike Fink Keel Boat Landing structure survives. That said, the mere presence of this permit would suggest that the structure will survive… I think.

Looking at the concept art below, we can see that a new walkway will be constructed to the north (right) side of the current Liberty Square Riverboat landing building. That would put the walkway between the Liberty Square Riverboat landing and the Mike Fink Keel Boat landing. It’s possible that the structure could survive, although modifications will certainly need to be made to remove the dock and bring the area on the west side of the structure up to the new grade established for Piston Peak National Park.

In fact, a new aerial photo from Bioreconstruct shows that work is already underway near the former dock area as part of the ongoing grading project in the former Rivers of America basin. We can see that excavation has taken place right up to the structure, with more work on the actual structure itself likely coming in the weeks and months ahead.
