A rare Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for the Central Florida area, including Walt Disney World. It has been more than 15 years since the Central Florida area experienced an Extreme Cold Warning, and dangerously low temperatures are expected. Here’s the latest on the forecasted conditions and timing.
Extreme Cold Warning Issued for Walt Disney World
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for multiple counties in Central Florida, including Orange County and Osceola County, the two counties that Walt Disney World is spread between.
The Extreme Cold Warning will feature dangerously cold wind chills as low as 8 degrees. Those dangerously cold wind chills could lead to frostbite and hypothermia, even with limited exposure. In addition, a Freeze Warning is in effect, which will likely kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Both the Extreme Cold Warning and Freeze Warning are in effect from the evening of Saturday, January 31st, to the afternoon on Sunday, February 1st.
Walt Disney World has not issued any operational updates for the cold weather. The National Weather Service advises that people should dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves, if they must go outside.
