The Oriental Land Company (OLC), operator of the Tokyo Disney Resort, announced the establishment of the Oriental Land Cruise Company (OLCC), a wholly-owned subsidiary that will run cruise operations. In a press release, OLC showcased the new logo for the OLCC and the logo for Disney Cruise Line Japan. While only one cruise ship has been announced so far, the press release uses the plural “ships” to describe future operations. Here’s the latest!

Disney Cruise Line Japan Established for Oriental Land Company Ships

Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (hereinafter, the “Company”) hereby announces that, at the Board of Directors meeting on March 24, 2026, it was decided to establish ORIENTAL LAND CRUISE CO., LTD. as its wholly-owned subsidiary.

As upheld in the 2035 Long-term Management Strategy, the Company seeks to evolve its business structure to achieve sustainable growth. To this end, the Company is working to launch Disney cruise services in the Japanese fiscal year 2028 as a pillar for further growth, while pursuing continued growth for Tokyo Disney Resort, its mainstay business. As part of this initiative, the Company has decided to establish a subsidiary to accelerate the commercialization of its cruise business and to manage and operate its future cruise ships in a specialized and agile manner.

The new company will be established in early April with a capital allocation of roughly $2.8 million.

OLCC says that, going forward, Oriental Land Cruise Company will operate Japan-based Disney cruise services under the name Disney Cruise Line Japan.

With regard to the Disney cruise ships that ORIENTAL LAND CRUISE CO., LTD. will operate, the Company is currently coordinating their detailed design, onboard content, and styling, among other elements, in collaboration with Disney Enterprises, Inc., based on Disney Wish, an existing Disney Cruise Line ship, to meet Japanese registry specifications. Construction will commence in the second half of the Japanese fiscal year 2026.

It’s worth noting that the official press release uses the plural “ships” to describe the operations. As of right now, only one ship has been announced. It’s possible that the pural use of “ships” is simply future-proofing the company. It could also be an indication that more than one cruise ship is planned.

The Company is launching Japan’s first Disney cruise ship. This will introduce a new type of experience, family entertainment cruises, to the Japanese cruise market. The launch of the first Disney Cruise Line Japan ship is planned to debut in the Japanese fiscal year 2028.

The partnership was first announced back in July 2024. In the initial announcement, Disney said that the new Disney cruise ship, to be registered and based in Japan year-round, will be constructed at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with imaginative designs created by Walt Disney Imagineering.

A sister ship to the popular Disney Wish, it will feature many guest-favorite venues and experiences from that ship with select modifications specially designed with Japanese guests in mind. It is expected to be approximately 140,000 gross tons and powered by liquefied natural gas, with about 1,250 staterooms.

The addition of a locally based Disney cruise ship will offer fun and relaxation for Japanese Disney fans during magical voyages filled with the incredible entertainment, world-class dining and exceptional guest service that set Disney cruises apart.
