Good afternoon from Magic Kingdom, where we spotted Cast Members riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad ahead of its May 3rd reopening. The fact that Cast Members are riding the attraction is a big milestone as Disney prepares to reopen the popular roller coaster following a full track rebuild. Here’s the latest!
Cast Members Begin Riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
As you can see in our photos below, Cast Members have been riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad today. The milestone of having humans ride comes after months of empty train testing, or testing where water jugs simulate the weight of humans.
From what we could tell, the Cast Members riding the attraction were likely Cast Members who work at the ride. I’m not aware of any widespread Cast Member previews taking place.
In addition to seeing actual people on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, we spotted five different trains on the tracks as multi-train operations continue ahead of a May 3rd reopening. The trains that we spotted were:
- U.B. BOLD (#1)
- U.R. DARING (#2)
- I.M. BRAVE (#4)
- I.B.HEARTY (#5)
- I.M. FEARLESS (#6)
When it reopens, guests can expect to find the following changes at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad:
- All-new trains
- All-new roller coaster track
- Refreshed Audio-Animatronics throughout the attraction
- Returning effects that haven’t been present for years
- Rainbow caverns that come to life as the mountain pushes back against our presence
- Actual gold out on the mountain for the first time ever
