More Set Installation Permits Filed for Indiana Jones Transformation of DINOSAUR Ride at Animal Kingdom

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed new Notice of Commencement permits for the Indiana Jones transformation of the DINOSAUR attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This work is part of a larger reimagining of DinoLand USA into a Tropical Americas-themed land. Here’s a closer look at the new filings.

New Imagineering Permits for Set Installation at Indiana Jones Ride

Ancient Mayan temple interior with adventurers exploring, neon glyphs on the walls, and a vehicle driving inside a dimly lit, mysterious cave filled with glowing artifacts and rugged terrain.

Today, Walt Disney Imagineering has filed two new permits for “set installation” at an address that resolves to the former DINOSAUR attraction. These aren’t the first set installation permits to be filed for the Indiana Jones attraction, but with the ride now closed and a 2027 opening timeframe looming, they do indicate that work is moving along for the retheme.

The permits each carry a standard expiration timeframe of one year. Don’t read too much into that. We expect that the Tropical Americas project will open later in 2027. The contractors listed in the permit are both longtime Imagineering collaborators.

Adirondack Studios has been responsible for scenic work in many of Disney World’s most successful projects such as Pandora – The World of Avatar, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, New Fantasyland, Frozen Ever After, Disney Springs, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and more.

Scenario has worked with Walt Disney Imagineering in the past, including on the nearby Encanto-themed attraction. In fact, Scenario has worked with Imagineering in a global capacity, assisting with international attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure at Shanghai Disney.

More recently, Scenario worked extensively on the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and at Disneyland Park. Their work for the lands included 3D Show Set Design, Building Information Modeling, show set theming for 15 ride scenes, and more. Scenario was also the sole rockwork vendor for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Their work included more than 200,000 sqft of rockwork and curbs, including more than 20 distinct rockwork zones, taking more than 250,000 estimated working hours.

In the upcoming Indiana Jones-themed attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we’ll go on a brand new adventure with a familiar character (and ride layout). The former DINOSAUR attraction is being rethemed to accommodate a new adventure with Indiana Jones that will take guests through a Mayan temple (and to worlds beyond).
