Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a notice of commencement permit for the DINOSAUR attraction ahead of a retheming into an Indiana Jones ride. DINOSAUR will remain open through the end of 2025, but Walt Disney World has announced that it will close sometime in 2025. The current best estimates are for an early 2026 closing date as Disney kicks off work to retheme the ride. Here’s the latest on the permit and the upcoming Indiana Jones-themed attraction.

Permit Filed for Indiana Jones Retheme of DINOSAUR

The permit lists the DINOSAUR attraction building as the address and lists Mecca Productions as the contractor. Walt Disney Imagineering is the owner of the permit, suggesting that the work has to do with theming elements. Indeed, the scope of work is listed as “Install Set Elements”.

While the permit doesn’t specifically say that the work is for the Indiana Jones ride, it is believed that the work will be for the extensive retheme planned for the scenic elements of the DINOSAUR attraction. It’s unknown if the work pertains to the inside or outside of the building, both of which will undergo changes over the next year or two.

It is believed that the ride track will remain the same, but that the set design will change dramatically for the retheme. Here’s how Disney describes the upcoming Indiana Jones ride, which will contain a completely unique storyline when compared to other Indiana Jones attractions at Disney theme parks worldwide.

A new Indy experience is set to arrive in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and will be different from any other Indiana Jones experience around the world.

In this new venture, the man with the hat has recently discovered a perfectly preserved Maya temple, and that can only mean one thing: it’s time to explore it. He’s heard rumors about a mythical creature deep within the temple — and he’s got to see it for himself. So, he brings us along on the adventure… but will there be snakes? We’ll just have to wait and see.

The Indiana Jones attraction is part of a complete retheme of DinoLand USA into a Tropical Americas-themed land. Other attractions planned for the Tropical Americas land include an Encanto attraction and a carousel featuring popular Disney animals.
