Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently closed on its reopening day after a fire extinguisher appeared to be used on the track of the load/unload area. Here’s what we know.

UPDATE: Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened around 10:20pm, after a more than 4-hour closure due to what appeared to be a small fire in the load/unload station. Walt Disney World has not responded to a request for more information. The remainder of our article remains unchanged for posterity.

Fire Shuts Down Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

As you can see in the photo below, a Cast Member is utilizing a fire extinguisher on the track in the load/unload area of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It would seem like a fire prompted the action from the Cast Member. The attraction and queue were evacuated following the reported fire.

A call for a fire was placed around 5:45pm and the attraction remains closed as of 7:30pm.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopened earlier today following a 16-month refurbishment that included a full track replacement and an update to the ride systems, among other changes.

Here’s a look at the track in the same general area as the reported fire from our ride on Big Thunder Mountain Railroad earlier today.

This is a breaking news story, and we’ve reached out to Disney for more information.
