Frontier Developments has entered into an agreement with Disney to develop and publish a new video game drawing on Disney’s iconic portfolio of intellectual property. The Cambridge-based studio, known for Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution, will fully fund the project itself. Frontier hasn’t set a release window, named platforms, or confirmed which Disney franchise the game will use. Here’s what the studio has confirmed so far.

What Frontier and Disney Have Confirmed

Frontier positioned the new game as an extension of its work in the Creative Management Simulation (CMS) genre. That category includes Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution. The studio also has a separate, unannounced Planet game already in development, distinct from the Disney project.

Frontier specified that it, not Disney, is fully funding development and publishing. Which Disney franchise(s) the game will draw from remains unconfirmed, as does its title and release date.

What Frontier’s CEO Said

CEO Jo Cooke tied the announcement to the studio’s existing strategy. “We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Disney, which further reinforces our clearly defined strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation game franchises,” Cooke said.

Cooke pointed to the studio’s fan base as the reason for pursuing a Disney project specifically. “Our mission with this game is to connect a passionate creative community of players with one of the world’s most iconic and beloved brands, and I can’t wait to see what our talented teams will create with this amazing opportunity,” Cooke said.

Frontier hasn’t confirmed any specific gameplay direction for the Disney project. Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo remain the clearest reference points, both known for the level of detail and creative freedom they give players to create theme parks and attractions.
