According to the My Disney Experience app, guests will be required to join a boarding group to experience the Rise of the Resistance attraction within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
There is an important distinction to be made here in that the boarding group appears to be for the Rise of the Resistance attraction only, and not the land as a whole. Back when Star wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland, a similar boarding group process was used for the entire land. Presumably, Disney isn’t expecting overwhelming demand for all of the offerings in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, just the Rise of the Resistance attraction.
