Rise of the Resistance Queue Spills Out of Star Wars Land as Disney Pushes to Get Guests on Ride After 7 Hours of Downtime

The scene at Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a bit chaotic tonight as the return queue has spilled out of Star Wars Land and into Grand Avenue. Disney is currently calling boarding groups back at an unprecedented rate tonight, as they try to get everyone onto the ride after 7 hours of downtime to start the day.

As of publish time Disney is calling back boarding groups 71-108, which is a whopping 37 groups at once. We saw a spread of 39 groups earlier this evening. The average today was just above 21 groups per hour, over 7 groups per hour higher than the previous high. All this is to say that Disney is putting a lot of stress on the queue when the normal wait time for the attraction is around 30 minutes once you enter the queue.

Calling back so many guests at once is leading to a quoted wait time of north of two hours as the line twists and turns once it enters the tunnel that connects Batuu to the rest of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Once inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the switchbacks continue and the full outdoor queue is in use, a rarity with the boarding group virtual queue system.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios closes at 8pm tonight, but managers we spoke with said that they will try to accommodate as many guests as they can, even if that means operating the attraction past park hours.

  1. The HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH needs to see the handwriting on the wall for Rise of the Resistance and make it a Fastpass! The way it is right now, people are giving up sleep, arriving at ridiculously early hours, and Disney is setting it’s guests up for pushing shoving brawls by creating ROPE DROP moments to try to score a boarding pass! Fastpass eliminates this. Where are the thinkers in Disney here? RESTORE THE MAGIC!!
