Work Expands on Main Street USA Western Bypass at Magic Kingdom

Work continues to expand on a section of Magic Kingdom between Casey’s Corner and Crystal Palace. The work has progressed from a backstage gate to a repoured pathway as Disney possibly looks to utilize the western backstage areas of Magic Kingdom a bit more during periods of larger crowds. Typically only used for the highest of crowds, this backstage gate will take guests from near First Aid to the Main Street Fire Station at the front of the park.

Here’s a look around the area, including an expanded construction zone that includes more of the walkway than in our last update. The baby care center, first aid, and restrooms all remain open during this work.

Here’s a look at the walkway work.

And here’s a look at a new backstage gate that was recently installed. There doesn’t appear to be any work taking place further backstage than what’s immediately visible in the photo below, but it’s possible that Disney is looking to finish work on the guest-accessible areas first before shifting their attention to backstage areas. With Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary set to kick off next year, Disney is making guest flow improvements around the resort.

    1. Will this be IN ADDITION TO the intermittently-used backstage exit on the east side of Main Street, near the Plaza Restaurant? Or will they stop utilizing that side?
