Original Concept for Star Wars Land Was Themed to Tatooine; Indiana Jones Stunt Show and More Planned to be Demolished

In a wide ranging interview with former Walt Disney World VP Dan Cockerell on WDW Radio, plans for a vastly different Star Wars Land came to light.

According to Cockerell, the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular was going to be demolished and become the “heart” of the Star Wars Land. There were plans for a Mos Eisley cantina that was going to sit across from Star Tours. There were also plans for multiple attractions, but Cockerell didn’t elaborate on that. The team tasked with creating the land was “way down the path” on their concept art, but didn’t quite make it to architectural drawings before receiving a call that would change all that.

As the story goes, then CEO Bob Iger met with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy and said that they were scrapping the plans. Kennedy reportedly nixed the idea, stating that there were way more Star Wars stories ahead of Disney than behind them, and maybe they shouldn’t create a theme park land themed to Tatooine, a locale viewed as being of the Star Wars past. That day, the idea of a Tatooine Star Wars land was killed.

Of course, the version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that we eventually received was much different than the idea of a Tatooine locale taking over Echo Lake. Instead, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge took over the Lights, Motors, Action Stunt Show area as well as a good portion of the Streets of America.

    1. That woman should have nothing to do with any Star wars thing anywhere. She’s a social justice warrior that needs to leave the legendary franchise alone. Everyone wanted tattooen or endoor because that’s the nostalgia.

    2. Most of the characters people know and love from Star Wars are connected to the Tatooine planet, so that would have made the most sense, instead they invented built a place no one knows, and no one has any emotional ties to, which really doesn’t make much sense to me

    3. Kathleen Kennedy has ruined Star Wars and I suspect Disney will regret making a world no one cares about. She may think there are a lot of stories ahead of them but so far, under her watch, they have all been a big bust in terms of any iconic or lasting effect on movie culture. In fact, it has been cringe-worthy to watch.
