In a press conference today, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings has just announced that he has signed an executive order requiring everyone in Orange County Florida to wear a face mask. This is in response to an increase in positive cases and the reported positivity rate. This mandate will go into effect on June 20th, and apply to every person working, living, visiting, or doing business in Orange County.
The executive order defines a face covering as “a uniform piece of material that securely covers a person’s nose and mouth and remains affixed in place without the use of one’s hands”.
The following people will be exempt from the order:
- Persons under the age of 2
- Persons for whom a face covering would cause impairment due to an existing health condition
- Persons working in a profession who do not have face-to-face interactions with the public
- Persons working in a profession where use of a face covering will not be compatible with the duties of the profession
- Persons exercising while observing social distancing per CDC guidelines
While this doesn’t change the fact that the Walt Disney World Resort is already requiring the use of a face mask while on property, it strengthens the position of The Walt Disney Company to require face masks as part of its announced reopening plans for Walt Disney World. This comes after the CDC and WHO agree on the use of face masks while in public.
Masks have been required at Disney Springs for about a month now.
