Disney Announces Breakdown of Walt Disney World Layoffs

According to a document filed with the state of Florida, Disney has released a breakdown of the various areas of business that will be laid off as part of the 6,700 non-union Walt Disney World positions lost. As a reminder, negotiations are still ongoing with the Disney World unions to determine the number of unionized roles that will be cut. The latest information we have from the union is that there were over 21,000 Cast Members that haven’t been recalled prior to the layoff announcements. Here’s a breakdown of the locations that Disney reported layoffs for:

    • 6246 at Team Disney Orlando – finance, operations, and more (possibly even Resort-wide positions)
    • 65 at Celebration offices – administrative
    • 49 – Orlando International Airport – merchandise, operations
    • 22 – Creative Costuming
    • 8 – Disney Reservations Center
    • 279 – Disney Vacation Club

Disney will be contacting Cast Members in the coming days to notify them of their status. In total, Disney has announced that 28,000 Cast Members will be laid off, nearly 30% of its domestic theme parks workforce. Keep in mind that these are non-union roles. Disney is still negotiating with unions to finalize the number of affected Cast Members over the next few days.

    1. The Airport locations are part of the Service Trades Council union contract. There are no anticipated layoffs for Full-time Merchandise (hourly) Cast Members. While the Airport stores are currently not open, unionized employees are working at other locations on property.
