As we continue to learn more about the domestic Disney Parks layoffs a statement from the Local 50 union estimates up to 2,500 of its members will be laid off in the coming weeks. This estimate is on top of the nearly 1,000 members that Local 11 announced.
Here is the statement from Local 50, emphasis added by BlogMickey.com:
As you all know, the company announced this afternoon that after 7 months of closing, Disney will begin to suffer the dismissal of 28,000 executive members, non-unionized, employees and trade union members between Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Cast members of Local 50. will be included.
There’s a lot of information we don’t know now and we’re scheduled to meet with Disney in the next few days to learn more and negotiate the effects.
Here’s what we know now: it has yet to be determined who will be subject to layoffs. Contract and negotiation will determine this. Firing notice to Local 50 members is scheduled for Nov 1 The non-unionized, salaried and executive cast is starting to receive notice now. Real end dates will be set in the notice. Over 2500 members of Local 50 are now expected to be fired.
