Disney: No Plans to Open Main Street USA at Disneyland

With yesterdays news that Disney will open the gates to Disney California Adventure, fans were wondering if Disney would do the same for Main Street USA which is just steps away. Before Disney announced their plans to “extend” Downtown Disney into Disney California Adventure, we theorized that Disney could and should reopen their theme parks for a “Taste of Disneyland” event where they could offer shopping and dining without opening up the attractions. As we’ve seen at other theme parks, the move to open up as a shopping and dining venue is allowed under the strict state guidelines, and opening up in such a manner could save jobs.

Now, according to a report from Newport Beach Patch, a Disney spokesperson has said that they don’t have any plans to open up Main Street USA at this time. Of course, it’s likely that Disney is waiting to see how the November opening of Buena Vista Street in Disney California Adventure goes before committing to opening up more sections of their theme parks, but we can see Disney expanding the idea to more areas if it is well received and safely operated.
