Disneyland and Other Theme Parks Ask Newsom Not to Finalize Theme Park Guidelines After Reading Draft Proposal

An interesting story is coming out tonight from the OC Register that could delay the earlier announcement that California is ready to issue reopening guidelines for theme parks.

The California Attractions and Parks Association (CAPA), which represents Disneyland, Universal, and other theme park operators in the state, have asked Newsom to not finalize guidance for amusement parks just yet. Here’s what they had to say, emphasis added by BlogMickey.com:

We ask the governor not to finalize guidance for amusement parks before engaging the industry in a more earnest manner, listening to park operators’ expertise and collaborating with the industry on a plan that will allow for amusement parks to reopen responsibly while still keeping the health and safety of park employees and guests a top priority.

Today California amusement park leaders who have been working for months to prepare to reopen responsibly saw an initial draft of state guidance and blueprint placement for California’s amusement parks. While we are aligned on many of the protocols and health and safety requirements, there are many others that need to be modified if they are to lead to a responsible and reasonable amusement park reopening plan.
    Erin Guerrero, CAPA Executive Director

According to communications from unions that were obtained by BlogMickey.com, California is preparing to introduce guidelines that would not only be geographically restricting, but could also delay theme parks from opening until some of the final tiers of California’s reopening plan. It’s possible that not only would the theme parks need to wait weeks or longer to reopen, but that they will not be the economic magnet that they once were due to geographical restrictions in the guidelines.

Governor Newsom as not released the guidelines yet, so it’s possible that the restrictions that we are eluding to could be eased in a final draft.

    1. People are dying and y’all are whining about going to your favorite amusement park?! The economy and keeping fat tourists amused is NOT what’s important right now.
