Disney World has just notified equity Cast Members that they will be laid off. While we’re still working through the details, the layoffs appear to be widespread and devastating to the deep talent base that Walt Disney World had.
The layoffs come at a time when the return of live entertainment has become foggy. What started as a dispute with the Actors’ Equity Association union eventually came to a resolution back in mid-August.
After the memorandum of understanding was signed, there was no movement from Disney on bringing back stage shows and more equity entertainment at the theme parks. Disney debuted two “non-equity” shows during the dispute, and has since closed the Disney Society Orchestra.
As of publish time, the only equity show that has returned to Walt Disney World is the Frozen Sing-Along at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

What IS Walt Disney World without entertainment?
Two steps above six flags instead of ten. The value narrows but hopefully temporary.
