Every once in a while a story gains enough traction on social media for it to sound true. Unfortunately for Disney fans, they won’t be able to buy a wrapped Minnie Van anytime soon.
For some background, earlier today a post on a Disney fan Facebook group appeared to show two Minnie Vans “for sale” at a Florida Chevy dealership. The asking price was reportedly $45,000 for the Suburbans. Well, we did some calling around and there are no polka dotted “Minnie Vans” for sale in Central Florida or in Tampa, FL which is where the vehicles were reportedly spotted.
That’s not to say that the vehicles weren’t at a local dealership, or that the images were doctored. According to Disney, the vehicles were, in fact, at a dealership. The vehicles were “being serviced and are now back in the fleet”, Disney said in communications to The Monorail Times. Disney confirmed that they are “not being sold.”
For clarity, vehicles that have been in the fleet before have been sent back to the dealership after their lease is up. At that point the dealership is free to sell the vehicle if they want, but that’s not what we’re talking about here.
As you may be aware, the Disney Minnie Van Service is temporarily unavailable and Cast Members who used to drive the Minnie Vans were part of the widespread layoffs at the domestic Disney Parks, calling the future of the service into question. On Disney’s end, they maintain that the service is only temporarily suspended and not that it has been canceled altogether.
