While December 5, 2019 would go down in the history books as a day long remembered, December 5, 2020 will likely be one that Disney wants to forget. Rise of the Resistance opened a year ago today, and while we hoped for a better day for the attraction, it’s a historically bad day for the attraction.
In yesterday’s piece titled “Rise of the Resistance Limps to One Year Anniversary“, we outlined a few of the problems that the attraction has had, and wondered if Disney perhaps tried too much with the attraction.
Today, on its 1 year anniversary of opening, the attraction didn’t open for over 6 hours and is on pace for a historically bad day. With about an hour left in the day, Rise of the Resistance has pushed through 21 boarding groups for the day after not opening until almost 4:30pm. This is one of, if not the worst days on record for the attraction.
Back on September 13 and 14, the attraction got through 36 boarding groups each day – a pandemic-era low. Since September 1st of this year, the attraction has averaged about 100 groups per day, to put todays performance into perspective.
We’re not sure what Disney’s plan for the attraction will be, but this isn’t working. While the attraction is amazing when working, the guest experience surrounding trying to ride it is consistently the worst guest experience at Walt Disney World.
We desperately want to write something positive about what is undoubtedly Disney’s most ambitious and impressive attraction to date, but Disney has to give us a reason to first – and that starts with making sure the attraction is operational.
Here’s to better years to come for Rise of the Resistance.
There was a broken sprinkler head that flooded both levels of the attraction…the fact it opened at all today is nothing short of amazing.
It was Walt Disney bday. Happy Birthday from me to you. Things will happen.
