According to BlogMickey.com sources, Main Street USA in Magic Kingdom will be getting a projection show as part of the 50th Anniversary offerings coming to Walt Disney World.
While Disney has not announced anything yet, sources indicated that work was set to take place on Main Street USA before the COVID-19 pandemic forced Disney World to close. Now, we’re told that Disney is, once again, getting ready to bring projection mapping to Main Street USA.
As you can see in the photos above, projectors were previously used on Main Street USA in Disneyland when Sleeping Beauty Castle was being worked on. A show called “Mickey’s Mix Magic” played in the absence of a castle nighttime show.
In Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney debuted a show called “We Love Mickey” that utilized projectors on Main Street USA while their castle was under construction.
Back at Magic Kingdom, it’s not immediately clear if the work to bring projection effects to Main Street USA is part of a standalone projection show, or if it’s part of a bigger project aimed at improving upon the Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular by bringing projections to Main Street USA during that show.
Either way, our sources have said that Disney is going to be moving forward with the project as part of a renewed push to bring nighttime entertainment back to the theme parks. It’s unclear if the work is being done to have a show debut on October 1, 2021 or simply at some point during the 18-month celebration.
As with any rumor, you should treat this information as unofficial unless and until Disney confirms our story.
