According to a report from USA Today, TRON Lightcyle Run “isn’t expected to open during [Magic Kingdom’s] 50th birthday year”. The report includes quotes from Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, although D’Amaro isn’t directly quoted on the latest status of the TRON Lightcyle Run roller coaster opening timeframe.

The report would align with a rumor that we wrote about back in November that said that crews are hard at work to weather-seal the building ahead of a construction pause expected to take place in February.

On a recent visit to Magic Kingdom we noticed that the portal that would take guests into the massive show building was closed, with Disney building a wall directly over the roller coaster track as seen in the photos below.

While speculation and rumors are fun on fan sites such as BlogMickey.com, those types of things are generally left out of a collaborative article by a major news publication. The article was also shared on social media by Disney itself, perhaps lending some credibility to the claim that guests won’t be able to ride TRON Lightcycle Run until 2022. Of course, it would be nice if Disney themselves were able to give an updated timeline for the attraction as wording on the official Disney Parks Blog still lists the attraction’s opening timeline as “in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.”
