Disney Upgrades Nighttime Parade Route Lighting at Magic Kingdom

While walking down Main Street USA earlier today, we couldn’t help but notice something was a bit…off, or should we say on. Located on top of the Main Street USA shops and facades are multiple sets of nighttime parade lighting rigs that flood Main Street USA for parades such as Boo to You and Once Upon a Christmastime. Typically, these lights extend minutes before a parade starts and fold back down once the parade has ended.

Going back to today, we noticed that the lighting rigs were in their upright, show position during the day, but we also noticed that there was something different about them. First, here’s a look at an “old” lighting rig that we spotted today. It’s a substantial, almost stadium-like lighting rig that extends up and over the facades.

Now, let’s take a look at the upgraded nighttime parade lighting rigs! These sleeker rigs use LED lights that will give Disney much more control over the lighting conditions on Main Street USA. They even appear to control the lighting direction better when viewed from off-angles. Basically, they keep the light where it should be placed for a show without sending off an annoying, almost blinding light like the old flood lights. Here’s a look at the new lights that we spotted.

Without reading too much into this, it’s safe to say that Disney is at least continuing to make entertainment upgrades and updates even while most offerings remain suspended. As to whether or not this indicates any exciting announcements from Disney on the horizon, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
