In an email to Annual Passholders explaining that complimentary MagicBands will no longer be offered, Disney used some encouraging wording for guests reading between the lines as it relates to new sales of Annual Passes.
While the email itself was a bit grim for those guests who enjoyed complimentary MagicBands, it’s how Disney qualified the end of the free MagicBand perk that has us wondering if Disney World is preparing to sell new Annual Passes again. Emphasis added by BlogMickey.com:
As more Passholders continue to discover [MagicMobile], we will no longer be offering complimentary MagicBands with Annual Pass purchases and renewals made August 16, 2021 and beyond.
As you may know, Disney has suspended new purchases of Annual Passes due to the capacity restrictions within their theme parks. With Disney CEO Bob Chapek announcing that capacity is increasing, it’s possible that Disney may resume new Annual Pass sales near or before August 16th.
Of course, Disney is selling Annual Passes to a very narrow, select group of qualifying individuals. This wording could be in reference to those types of sales.
Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations kick off on October 1, 2021, and it’s likely that Disney will want to show a strong support for their theme parks during this milestone event. Sales of new Annual Passes would certainly draw a huge amount of cash to the resort as fans are basically begging for the return of the program.
At Disneyland, Disney is constructing a brand new frequent visitor program that will replace their longstanding Annual Pass program. There have been no announcements to modify the Annual Pass program at Walt Disney World once sales resume.
