RUMOR: Buffets to Return to Disney World Restaurants

UPDATE: Disney has confirmed our rumor. Our original article continues below.

A new rumor is in to BlogMickey.com today that signals even more of a return to normal for Walt Disney World. According to sources, Walt Disney World is planning on bringing back buffets to select restaurants.

As Disney World continued their phased reopening throughout the remainder of 2020 and into 2021, they swapped out buffets for family-style offerings. With physical distancing limitations in place and concerns over shared utensils, a buffet-style restaurant simply couldn’t function as it used to. Instead, we saw Disney pivot to family-style offerings where the food was still unlimited, but it was brought out in predetermined portions by a server.

Now, BlogMickey.com sources have indicated that buffets will soon return to Walt Disney World. It is expected that Disney will announce that Boma – Flavors of Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge will reopen shortly before the rest of the resort, and that the buffet will return. Disney is also reportedly looking at bringing back buffets to the theme parks should the Boma reopening go well.

One such theme park location expected to resume buffet service is Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom. BlogMickey.com has learned that Crystal Palace is expected to resume buffet service sometime in September, but it’s possible that all dining periods might not return to buffet-style dining.

As with any rumor, you should treat the info in this post as unofficial unless and until Disney confirms it.

    1. Even before the pandemic all buffets needed to be changed to employee served. I really hope that Disney does not go back to self-serve. Not sure if or when I will ever go to a buffet again.
