As we continue to get more and more information about the Disney Genie service set to launch on October 19 at Walt Disney World, one major restriction is not even in writing yet from Disney. According to Scott Gustin, Disney communicated during a media event that no re-rides will be allowed when using the Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane service.
As of publish time, Disney has not put this restriction into writing on their website, but they have communicated the restriction to media outlets.
So, what does this mean? If you book a Disney Genie+ return time for an attraction, say Tower of Terror, for 11am and want to ride again that same day, you will not be able to use Disney Genie+/Lightning Lane to access the attraction a second time – even if there are return times available. The only option for guests who have already used Lightning Lane to experience an attraction will be the standby queue.
It was not uncommon during the FastPass+ era at Walt Disney World and the MaxPass era at Disneyland for guests to be presented with the ability to re-ride an attraction.
The old FastPass+ system used to allow up to 3 initial attraction selections before your park visit and then a rolling single attraction selection after the initial 3 selections were redeemed. It was during this single attraction selection phase that guests could select attractions that they had previously been on.
Now, with Disney Genie+, guests will not be permitted to choose the same experience more than once per day. As a reminder, here’s a list of attractions that will be covered under the Disney Genie umbrella.
From that list, the attractions listed in purple will be included in the $15 Disney Genie+ purchase.
Attractions in blue will be an additional fee for both guests who have purchased Disney Genie+ and those who haven’t. It is not a requirement to purchase Disney Genie+ to be able to purchase the a la carte Individual Lightning Lane attractions listed in blue below.
We’ll have a lot more coverage of Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lane attraction purchases in the coming days and weeks as we learn more about the ins and outs of the service.
