The “scheduling conflict” that is preventing Disney CEO Bob Chapek from attending the Destination D23 event today is reportedly a private farewell dinner for former Disney CEO Bob Iger at Iger’s Brentwood home in California last night (via Puck News). The dinner reportedly consisted of close friends and colleagues – including Chapek.
Chapek was originally scheduled to give opening remarks at this morning’s Destination D23 event ahead of a panel where Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro will give an update on the future of the theme parks under his rule. D’Amaro took over the theme parks division of the company back in May 2020 and has been guiding the division back to profitability following COVID-19 shutdowns and massive layoffs.
Chapek issued an apology for not being able to attend, citing his new role as CEO and the demands of the position as to why he’s unable to make it but did not give specifics on where he’d be. Chapek noted that he’s attended the past several Destination D23 events in his former role as Chairman of the theme parks division and that he “really loves” the event.
