Disney Employees Plan Walkout Due to Company’s “Apathy” on “Don’t Say Gay Bill”

A new website, WhereIsChapek.com, claims to be put together by The Walt Disney Company’s LGBTQIA+ community and their allies. The website is an organizing ground for planned walkouts across various lines of business over what it claims is the Company’s “apathy in the face of the bigoted ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill put forth by the FL state legislature”.

Starting today, the website organizers are planning a series of small walkouts that will, they hope, culminate in a full stage walkout on Tuesday, March 22nd. A full schedule of the walkout plans is available on the website.

In addition to planning walkouts, the organizers have penned an open letter against the actions of The Walt Disney Company Leadership. You can read the letter, in full, on the Google Docs petition.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek has been in hot water since sending out a company-wide email that explained how The Walt Disney Company would not denounce the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. BlogMickey.com published the full email shortly after it was sent to all company employees. In a shareholder call a couple days later, Chapek said that he would be meeting with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis to discuss the bill and that The Walt Disney Company would be donating $5 million to the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The HRC refused that money and asked The Walt Disney Company to do better.

Two days after the HRC refused the donation, Chapek sent yet another company-wide email, this time issuing a stronger rebuttal of the bill and offering an apology for his lack of allyship.

It’s unclear if the actions of the Disney Walkout social media account will have any wide-reaching effect, but there has been strong support for the idea on social media.

  1. We are on the brink of nuclear war and this what they are protesting? How about protesting the dealings of Disney with communist China who is a partner with Russia killing people ?

  2. I call this a entitled walk out. I’m gay and I’m so sick of us being so triggered. This country has so much more stuff to worry about. Like war and a recession. If you wanna fight this then quite or don’t go to Disney.(not gonna happen) Walk outs don’t work Disney will win I’m a huge fan of Disney and will still go. I’m living my life and not gonna let a law make me unhappy.
